Areas from Golf clubs to Aircraft
Forty years have passed since carbon fiber was first produced. It is 10 times stronger than steel, but only one-quarter of the weight. And people have at last come to recognize its value. Carbon fiber has been used in many areas from golf clubs to aircraft. We recognize its potential as an important material to meet needs for being lightweight, saving energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. We are working hard every day to expand carbon fiber's use.
The use of carbon fiber can be divided into the following three applications. First, it is used in aircraft applications such as for civilian airplanes. Second, it is used in sport and leisure applications such as in golf clubs, tennis rackets and fishing rods. And third, it is used in industrial applications such as generating energy from wind power and automobile parts. In particular, we estimate that demand for carbon fiber will grow by up to 10% per year for aircraft and industrial use, because people are going to increasingly recognize the need for being lightweight and saving energy.
Toward the Realization of CS (Customer’s Satisfaction)
Our Carbon Fiber Business Group has plants and sales offices in Japan, Europe and the USA. And we receive orders from customers all over the world in our global operations. While flexibly increasing the production of carbon fiber for aircraft and pressure vessel use, where it needs to be of a high quality and have quality guaranteed, we will also increase production of it for wind power use. And we will earnestly enter the field of automobile use, and overcome the following three issues. First, we will reduce costs. Second, we will develop short-term processing. And third, we will construct a recycling system.

Carbon Fibers
Carbon fibers are light and boast excellent tensile strength and modulus. Demand for carbon fibers is increasing in the aerospace and other industries, spurred by a growing need for materials that contribute to weight reduction, enhance energy efficiency and respond to environmental concerns-a trend that is catalyzing rapid market growth. Carbon fibers are also used in tennis racquet frames, fishing rods and a wide range of other sports and leisure equipment.
TENAX, manufactured by Toho Tenax, has been adopted for use in the Airbus A380, which has twin decks and a seating capacity of 550. TENAX is also widely used in wind generator blades. Additionally, we are focusing efforts on developing a variety of new automotive and other applications.
