TEIJIN FIBERS Develops WaveronTM Flat Polyester Yarn with Four balls |
| TEIJIN FIBERS LIMITED | |
TEIJIN FIBERS LIMITED (TFJ) has developed WaveronTM, an innovative polyester yarn with a flat cut plane featuring four balls in line. The yarn simultaneously offers high-level multifunctionality depending on use and soft texture. WaveronTMis a material based on a new concept in which a single material offers multiple functions through such elements as a combination of a flat fiber cut section with four balls, fabrication, weaving/knitting technologies and dying processing technologies under optimal conditions. TFJ has begun to position the material as a mainstay product, aiming at employing it in a broad range of applications, including sportswear, inner clothing, liners and women's and men's clothing from the spring/summer 2003 season. |

| Details are as follows. |
| 1. Background to Development |
| (1) |
Recently, there has been increasing demand for greater functionality in the fashion industry, for women's and men's fashions as well as for functional clothing, in response to the growing expectations of consumers. Such factors as soft textures and feel are also in demand. Responding to these developments, TFJ has successfully developed WaveronTM, a material based on the Company's accumulated technologies in the manufacture of yarns with cut section in different shapes, along with other technologies for fabrication, weaving, knitting and dying processing. With a cut section of a special shape, this groundbreaking material delivers diverse functionality depending on its use while ensuring anti-transparency, windbreak, water resistance, sweat absorption and quick drying. |

| (2) |
Through the synergy that occurs between achieving broad application with a single material and upgrading awareness of the material's brand, the company aims at up-scaling WaveronTM and bolstering production efficiency. As a next step, more variations on the specs will be introduced for polymer, fineness and others and production will introduce recycled polymer based on a new material recycling system. |
| 2. Description of WaveronTM Technologies and Characteristics |
Item |
Details of Technology |
Characteristics |
Polymer |
Titanium dioxide contained |
Prevention of transparency by light reflection of TiO2 fine particles
Anti-transparency |
Softness and draping by Ti02 fine particles
New texture Dry touch |
Shape of cut section |
Flat shape with four balls |
Point contact given a bumpy service, and a flat shape
Four balls irregularly reflect light, preventing excess gloss shininess specific to flat-type yarn.
Proper gloss |
Low flexural rigidity due to a flat cut section
Soft texture |
Good absorption and dispersion ensured by phenomenon, water running in concaves between four balls.
Sweat absorption and quick drying |
Low friction resistance due to the bumpy shape of a single yarn
Abrasion resistance |
Weaving and knitting technology |
Optimization of weaving and knitting conditions |
Longer sides of a flat fiber section aligned horizontally and evenly and a group of multi filaments has a widely spreading structure, filling gaps between woven/knitted textile.
Windbreak Water resistance Anti-transparency |
Knitted texture has a structure with longer sides standing vertically because flat yarn is twisted due to knitting conditions.
Bulkiness Soft touch |
