Teijin's technology is used in recycling and the environment -friendly products

In accordance with the Teijin Group Global Environmental Charter, we have established closed-loop polyester chemical recycling technology-a world first-, to lower the emission of CO2, chemicals and wastes. with this technology, we have reduced environmental impact. We also use this technology for recycling of other material.
With fears of depletion of petroleum, we are working on the development of high-performance bioplastic using biomass as raw materials.

Wind Generator Blades

With global warming encouraging demands for stricter controls on carbon dioxide emissions, wind power is attracting increasing attention worldwide as a clean alternative that does not require the burning of fossil fuels. The use of wind power is increasing, as is the size of the wind generators used. Today, the blade on a standard new wind generator with a generating capacity of 2,000 kilowatts per hour is approximately 40 meters. Because larger wind blades need stronger materials, many manufacturers have turned to carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Group company Toho Tenax Co., Ltd. is a leading supplier of carbon fibers for this application.

"ELK"

"ELK" is a PET seat cushioning material used mainly for cars and Shinkansen bullet trains developed by Teijin. Both the surface material and lining are made of 100% polyester and thus can be recycled easily. Even when combusted, "ELK" produces almost no toxic gases. "ELK" is also lightweight and boasts outstanding durability and breathability.

Water Purification Treatment Business

Why are we working on the "Water purification business "?

A lack and pollution of water resources have become aggravated in all parts of the world, and fighting over water is happening. Even in Japan where it has been said, "Water is abundant", there has been an increase in the shortage of water, and the concern for water, the demand for cyclic use of water, and the upgrade of water purification has risen more and more as people's demands for water diversify.

As an "Environmental leading enterprise", Teijin wants to work on water purification and recycling, which are resource limited , to spread the technology to foreign countries, and to contribute to the easing of the water stress (water resource shortage) throughout the world. Therefore, "WPT project" was set up in fiscal year 2007, and we are advancing the examination of building a business related to the water purification.

The water purification business concept of Teijin

Our concept is 'Circulation and recycling of wastewater. '

The core means to realizing our concept is "Environment-friendly biological processing technology". The multi-stage activated biological process (MSABP), which processes the drainage organism by using the food chain of the microorganism, has the advantage of energy and cost saving, compared with the activated sludge equipment that has been generally used up until now. Moreover, Teijin provides advanced processing technology of the electro catalytic method treatment system (ELCAT), the multistage ozone treatment system with added hydrogen peroxide (HiPOx), and biological treatment with carbon fiber, etc. as technology for the recycling of wastewater.

Combining such technology, devices, and materials with know-how related to the equipment, which has accumulated over many years, we offer not only engineering technology but also the total solution concerning the purification of industrial wastewater and sewage, including the analysis, the investigation, and the consulting service, etc.

Water treatment technology and equipment of Teijin

  • Multi-Stage Activated Biological Process (MSABP)*
    Using the food chain to suppress the generation of residual sludge.

    It is an epoch-making biological treatment system that has realized the natural food chain of microorganisms by means of special Tanji by using a multi-staged aerobic/anaerobic aeration tank.

  • HiPOx (Advance‚„ Oxdation Water Treatment)
    Multi-Stage Ozone Treatment System with Added Hydrogen Peroxide

    By the multi-step addition of pressurized ozone to the drainage with added hydrogen peroxide, radical OH, whose oxidation power is stronger than that of ozone, generates efficiently, and resolution of persistent substances, as well as deodorization, bleaching and sterilization of the drainage are carried out.

    • - The use of ozone and the oxidation resolution of the quality of processing are efficiently carried out by the multi-step addition.
    • - The generation of a harmful bromine acid ion and trihalomethane is minimum.

  • Carbon fiber purification material

    The microorganism is adsorbed by carbon fiber, and the organism is adsorbed and resolved forming a biological film. The microorganism in the biological film is preyed upon by larger living organisms, and the food chain is formed.
