Recognizing that ongoing, effective R&D is essential to sustained growth, the companies of the Teijin Group strive to ensure the efficient, forward-looking allocation of investment. Efforts are overseen by the Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with the aim of centralizing all aspects of the Group's R&D program, including basic research, and strengthening cooperation. We have also established a Group Technological Strategy Committee under the supervision of the CTO. This committee is responsible for formulating Group strategies for research, intellectual property, research personnel and technological marketing. The committee comprises the CTOs of each business group, as well as the heads of the Intellectual Property Center and marketing. The R&D Executives Committee, a horizontal grouping of Group R&D executives, is tasked with determining Groupwide research themes. Working groups are established to address topics of research e.g. nanotechnology and environment-friendly materials by promoting the fusion of core technologies in different business groups to accelerate the development of advanced technologies.

Teijin's operations span a broad range of businesses. Business-specific research is market- and customer-linked, giving us access to crucial information that enables us to cultivate new markets and develop innovative solutions. Corporate research focuses on not only developing basic and advanced technologies with the aim of cultivating new businesses, but also on supporting technological development in the business groups by fusing new technologies with existing technologies.
