A New Antistatic Polyester Material that Sheds Pollen and Water
Many people suffer from hay fever each year in early spring. Wearing a mask outside helps to protect against the pollen, but pollen clung to clothes is brought into the house, where it spreads easily and causes allergic symptoms.
To help those who suffer from hay fever, Teijin Fibers Limited has newly developed a material shedding cling pollen. Because it acts as a barrier against pollens, we named it as "POLLENBARRIER", which has been used for sportswear since 2002.
The unique, very smooth structure of "POLLENBARRIER" and an aftertreatment process make it difficult for pollen to cling to this polyester fabric, with tests showing pollen removal rates of 80% or higher.
"POLLENBARRIER"AS was developed in last January as an advanced version of "POLLENBARRIER". New material uses "BEWELL", which is high performance and durably antistatic threads and developed by Teijin Fibers Limited. Its durably antistatic added to threads themselves prevents effectively from clinging and provides higher water-shedding quality through aftertreatment.
High Performance and Durably Antistatic Threads "BEWELL"
"BEWELL" is developed by Teijin’s advanced polymer technology and ultrafine yarn-making technology with excellent antistatic in process of original threads. Generally, polyester is hydrophobic, meaning that it is easily electrostatically-charged. Even though the aftertreatment to the fabrics provides antistatic property, they are easily washed out but not durable.
"BEWELL" consists of a conjugate fiber* having a core of antistatic polymer and a sheath of regular polyester fiber. It is as easy as common polyester fibers to handle, and as well as being durably antistatic due to treatment with unique antistatic agents evenly dispersed on the nanometer scale. Drawing on our yarn-making technology makes an ultrafine fiber to give soft texture.
*Conjugate fiber has a composite thread spun by two different types of polymers supplied through a two-section spinning cap.
"BEWELL" Appearing in Stores
Sportswear such as golf and tennis apparels made of "POLLENBARRIER"AS using "BEWELL" will be in stores this spring. We will further differentiate our products by expanding product range through the development of lighter materials.
